At Messiah Lutheran Church we have a wide variety of performing ensembles. In addition to the adult Sanctuary Choir, we have The Messiah Players, our resident theatrical organization, the Alleluia Express for children in the 2nd to 6th grades, the Truth Singers, orchestra and handbell choirs. Messiah Lutheran also sponsors a monthly concert series. The following paragraphs explain each aspect of the program in further detail.

The Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir is the adult choir at Messiah Lutheran Church. The choir sings at a minimum of three Sunday services a month involving a large variety of choral selections. These selections range from Bach to spirituals to more contemporary arrangements. The primary focus is, however, on traditional choral music. The Sanctuary Choir also presents special concerts during the Christmas and Easter seasons. The choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Sigmar Chapel.

Celebrations Singers

Celebration Singers is also an adult choir with primarily responsibilities in the contemporary services singing selections appropriate for those services.  The choir sings the third Sunday of each month with rehearsals that same morning at 7:30 AM in Sigmar Chapel.   In addition, Celebration Singers are also involved with all special events throughout the year.

Darrel Sharrard, Organist

Well-known throughout South King County, Mr. Darrel Sharrard has been the organist at Messiah Lutheran Church for the past four years.  In addition to his duties in the traditional services, Darrel is also involved with several special events, funerals, weddings and his own concert at Messiah Lutheran.  He is also in great demand throughout the Auburn area.  An avid art collector, if you went through Auburn High School anytime in the past three decades, Darrel was probably your English teacher.

The Flute Choir

The Flute Choir is involved with services, both contemporary and traditional, approximately every six weeks.  Rehearsals are only on Sunday mornings and are not scheduled on a regular basis.  For more information and the current schedule, please contact the choir’s director, Mary Chalberg, at (253) 833-5280.

The Brass Choir

The Brass Choir is involved with both traditional services the first Sunday of each month playing all hymns and the communion and offertory.  The choir is also involved with several special events throughout the year.  The Brass Choir rehearses the first Sunday at 7:30 AM in the sanctuary balcony.

The Messiah Players

One of the most important aspects of our performing arts program is The Messiah Players. In addition to taking part in Sunday services with short dramatic productions, the players present an annual large-scale musical each spring. Many new members to Messiah Lutheran have come to our church as a direct result of attending a production of The Messiah Players. This year's production will be "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" with performances scheduled for the first two weekends in March, 2006.  More details on the show can be found at www.messiahplayers.orgEveryone is welcome to come see the shows!

The Vruth Singers

The Vruth Singers is open to everyone from the 6th grade through high school. While they sing a wide variety of choral music, the primary focus is on selections appropriate for both contemporary and traditional services. The Vruth Singers take part in at least two services a month. Like The Sanctuary Choir, The Vruth Singers are also involved with special concerts during the Christmas and Easter seasons. The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the Sigmar Chapel.

The Handbell Choir

Since the fall of 2001, Messiah Lutheran has had a full 5-octave set of Malmark Handbells. The choir will be involved with at least two services a month. They will also take part in special events and concerts to include Christmas and Easter. The ability to read music is required to participate in the handbell choir. The choir rehearses Monday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in Sigmar Chapel.

Contemporary Music Leaders

Contemporary Christian Music is the focus. This group provides leadership for the 10:45 AM Contemporary Worship service each Sunday morning.  The leaders consist of musicians and singers that have a love for contemporary Christian music and are willing to share their God given talents on a regular basis.  Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings.
